Our Story​​
Welcome to Bassotto Basset Hounds. Based in the South East of England, we are a small breeder and show kennel dedicated to raising healthy, sound and well-loved Basset Hounds.
My connection with animals began in childhood, but my commitment to Basset Hounds started around 15 years ago with my first girl, Martha. Soon after, my first show hound arrived from the renowned Dereheath Kennel — DiHeath Bohemian Affair (Maggie). Maggie was the foundation of my show career and went on to win Best Veteran Bitch at Crufts 2024 at an incredible 12 years old.
Our show team has grown steadily over the years. In 2023, we celebrated a huge milestone when my male Stanley, bred by the Quantas Napoca kennel, won our first CC (Challenge Certificate) at Bath Championship Show. He also proudly holds four Reserve CCs, an achievement we are incredibly proud of as a small kennel.
Today, we campaign a team of three Bassets at championship level throughout the UK and Europe.
I am very active within the canine community, serving as:

Assistant Secretary, Committee Member & Show Manager of The Midland Basset Hound Club

Committee Member & Show Manager for Eastbourne & District Canine Society
These roles allow me to contribute actively to the breed and support the clubs that uphold their futures.
My journey into judging began two years ago with the UK kennel club. In 2025, I judged my first breed club show, with a lovely entry , a tremendous, invaluable learning experience that strengthened my knowledge and passion for the Basset Hound even further.
Our Hounds & How We Raise Them.

Our Bassets are raised in a true family environment. They grow up surrounded by normal household life while also enjoying the fields and woodlands where they can do what Basset Hounds do best — follow their noses.

We aim to produce well-balanced, healthy hounds with correct type, good temperaments, and a life filled with enrichment and purpose.
Health, Type & Purpose.

Maintaining health, soundness and true working type is central to our breeding ethos.
A Basset Hound is and always should be — a hound of substance scent hound, capable of working steadily in the field all day. They should appear active, capable and fit for purpose, reflecting the breed’s heritage.
Despite their charming, gentle appearance, Basset Hounds are not a novelty breed — they are intelligent and independent built for function.
Puppies & Choosing a Basset Hound.

We only breed occasionally, and every potential home is carefully considered.
When we do have puppies available, our priority is always their wellbeing and the long-term future of the breed.
Before choosing a Basset Hound, it is important to research the breed properly. They are affectionate, sensitive, loyal and wonderfully soulful companions — but they also come with strong personalities, independence, and a nose that leads the way.
Always buy from a reputable breeder who health checks their dogs, understands the breed standard, and provides lifelong guidance and support.
